Top 10 Homepreneur Trends for 2010 | Small Business Trends

Social and Demographic Trends

8.  The New Local Movement: New localism is a trend that has been in place for years. Driven by changing demographics, technology, rising energy prices and concerns about the environment, Americans are increasingly focusing on their families, friends and communities.  Home businesses tap into this trend in two ways.  Home businesses allow greater community focus for the owner, and benefit from market opportunities created by locally-oriented customers.

Mobile Apps Help With Holiday Shopping - WSJ.com

The technology is new and still has its kinks, such as sending shoppers to stores where the products are out of stock. Pricing information is obtained from retailers' Web sites or by tapping into their databases, but may be flawed if retailers change prices at the last minute, for example. And sometimes, flaky mobile-data networks that can render apps slow or useless.

We're working on a solution.

The Pricefixr Story

About

Pricefixr makes cents for so many reasons. This crowdshopping application was hatched at Startup Weekend Cleveland on November 20, 2009 when the idea pitch of Jonathan Penn (inspired by his thrifty wife Colleen) was merged with the pitch of Doug Craver which included a merger proposal. Turns out they both wanted to solve the same problem, how to find the lowest prices on grocery items and make shopping a time and money saving breeze by creating a community of thrifty shoppers. It was the first ever Startup Weekend merger.

When Beth Dean, Lori Boos and the duo of Chris Sinchok and Jon Sustar cast their votes in favor, the Pricefixr team was off and coding, designing, branding, problem solving and creating the best user experience possible. Hell bent on creating a user friendly application and power-to-the-people-powered community that would eventually (after we get millions of savvy shoppers signed up and sharing their best deals) "fix" the lowest price possible for every user. You see, the more you contribute to the Pricefixr community, the smarter it gets and the more we all save together. By leveraging this collective intelligence, we're creating the first price cartel of consumers in the history of the universe.

Just sign-in to Pricefixr with Twitter and join our People-Powered Community today and never wonder again whether you're getting the best deal on Milk, Eggs or any item on your shopping list. Just price it, share it and "fix" it!
